Greensboro Woman Accused of Filing False Insurance Claims
RALEIGH -- Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin today announced the arrest of Kelly Silina Hatcher, also known as Kelly Hatcher Blackstock, 34, of 4528 Holland Drive, Greensboro; she is charged with two counts each of attempting to obtain property by false pretense and insurance fraud.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Hatcher of making false statements to North Carolina Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company in support of insurance claims filed for motor vehicle accidents on June 29, 2015, and Dec. 19, 2015. Investigators are seeking additional information in pending cases.
Hatcher was arrested on April 8 in Guilford County and placed under a $5,000 bond.
The Department of Insurance employs 20 sworn state law enforcement officers dedicated to investigating and prosecuting claims of insurance and bail bonding fraud. Since Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin took office in 2009, criminal investigators have made more than 1,500 arrests, resulting in more than 750 criminal convictions with more than 250 cases currently pending court. These efforts have delivered more than $72.1 million in restitution and recoveries for victims.
